My trip to Canada.
In 1990, I decided to take a trip to Canada to see my older brother, Sean. This was the first time I had seen him in twenty–five years. After a nine hour flight from London to Vancouver I was faced with another flight of two hours to reach his home in a small town in the north of Canada. This region of Canada is famous for its fishing and hunting. My brother was keen for me to join him and his friend Jason on a fishing trip along the Kitimat River.
They gave me some basic instruction on how to catch my first salmon. These wild Canadian salmon are not like Irish salmon. They are of a giant variety, absolutely enormous. After a short while, I felt a tension on the rod and with much effort I succeeded in reeling in my first salmon. I was overcome by happiness and the many congratulations and whoops of delight from my brother added to the enjoyment of the occasion. Between the three of us, we caught eight magnificent salmon.
